While you’re waiting for The Happiness Planner to arrive and to begin using it in the new year, we have created some exercises and printables to help you reflect on the past year and plan for the year ahead. Please feel free to share them with your friends and family.

1. Reflect on the year in general

Isn't it fun to look back to the year and reflect on what happened, what we learned, and what we had to go through? We always learn something new if we take a few minutes to reflect on the things that happened and let the magic of timing work itself out. 

 


2. Reflect on the highs and lows of this year

There will always be highs and lows in life - happiness, sadness, joy, disappointment, anger, and stress. The key question we should ask ourselves is not “What did we lose from it?”, but rather “WHAT DID WE LEARN?”. The quicker we can change our mindset and shift our focus to that, the stronger and happier we become. 

We were able to get those times of happiness and disappointments because we had certain people and certain things in our lives. Looking back on those moments, what and who do you feel grateful for? What great things happened that you wish you could repeat and how could you make them happen again? Write them all down so you can start visualizing and planning for 2020 in a more meaningful way. Because after all, what we actually remember about the moments in our lives is “how we felt”.

 


3. Reflect on how you have been spending your time on different areas of your life.

We can’t escape the fact that there are many aspects of life and sometimes it’s hard to be good at everything at once. Sometimes we want one area of our life to excel and we forget to pay attention to the other areas of life. Taking a look at how we spend the only limited resource that we have - our time - can help us realize that we might have been too caught up in one area of our life and that we should start balancing better.

 


4. Envision your life in the future and how you'd like to have spent your time

This exercise can help put things in perspective. Sometimes we get so caught up in responsibilities that we forget what truly matters. Use this to keep reminding yourself how you'd ideally like to spend your time so that at the end of your life, you can feel fulfilled that you have spent your time well.

 


5. Think about all the things you want to achieve in 2020 and who you want to be

Now it’s time to think about all the qualities you want to improve, the values you want to enhance or reinforce, and the skills you want to adopt or master. Do you want to be more organized, fearless, and confident? Do you want to engage in more social work because it is aligned with your values? Do you want to learn another language or take a cooking class because that’s what you’ve always wanted to do but never seem to get around to it? Now is the time to write everything down on one piece of paper.

 


6. Create action plans

After reflecting on the past year and visualizing your life in the future, you now should have more clarity about exactly what you want to achieve in 2020. You should feel more focused and determined now that you have identified exactly what you want to happen and what you will do to make those things happen. 

Please feel free to share this with your loved ones. This can be a great family lunch or a friends’ get-together activity.

In order to be truly happy, whole, and fulfilled, we must become better at managing ourselves - our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors - and ways of dealing with conflicts and nurturing relationships in our lives. We can keep running away from people who trigger us or we can choose to look within and grow. At the end of the day, our relationships are what make us happy and fulfilled. Our relationships don't get better unless we learn to deal with how we manage our emotions, our insecurities, our fears, and how we react and respond to unpleasant situations. We must learn to communicate better. We must learn to manage our responses. In 2020, we'd like to encourage you not just to become more productive and achieve more goals, but to become more understanding, whole, and fulfilled. And it all starts from within - from learning to understand who we are and manage the chaos that lies within.

As always, amazing!

This is the 2nd time I've bought a planner and this time round I'm enjoying it even more than the last. I bought it as birthday gift to myself and it has provided such a rich and motivating start to my 30th year! This planner has improved even more from thr last time I ourchased a few years ago and I genuinely thought it was perfect as it was then The quality of the planner itself, its packaging and the items it comes with is second to none! Its worth every penny and really has helped with tracking my long-term planning.

Best planner ever!!!!

I have a notebook addiction and am constantly writing lists, affirmations and my dreams down. The Happiness Planner has made my life so much easier. I use both the app and the journal and am so pleased with both. They allows me to write all these things in one place and organize myself in a way that I never thought possible before. Money well spent, I would recommend this to everyone.
