"Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure."
But how can we make sure that the success we're pursuing will make us feel fulfilled in the end? I believe, it starts with finding one's true purpose in life and living your life according to that. This is how you create a meaningful life - a life that is authentic and creates value not for yourself but others. If you don't know what your purpose in life is, our #Purpose journal and these printables/worksheets can help you dig deeper into your heart and soul in search for its meaning. Let's start with passion!
If you don't know what your purpose is, one of the ways to find out is to look at your passions.
If you’re not sure what your purpose is, think about your passions. Engaging in things you’re so passionate about can give your life meaning. Make a list of the things you’re passionate about and see if any of these can be turned into your life's purpose.
Looking at the people you admire and the qualities they possess can help you understand who you deeply desire to become. Sometimes we unconsciously hide our true ambitions and desires because of what we’ve been conditioned to believe about ourselves.
Put all your fears and doubt aside, let's dig deep into those hidden ambition and desires and boldly put them into the world. Who are the people you admire? What is it about them that intrigues you or inspires you? Why do you support what they’re doing? Why do you feel related to them? Your answers in this exercise can reveal the things you deeply desire in your life journey and the qualities you’d ideally like to possess.
Now, after having finished the above exercises, you might want to try turning your passion into your life's work. But this is not an easy thing to do as you may have several passions and interests. How would you know which one you should turn into a career? Which one would actually make you money? Use this exercise to help you figure out which passion of yours can possibly be turned into your life’s work.
Lastly, this is probably the best way to help you figure out how you want your life to be if you were to look back at it from your death bed.
Thinking about our own death can be quite scary, but it’s a fact that one day we will die. If you are searching for your life’s purpose or feel that you may be wasting time doing things that don’t make you feel truly fulfilled, writing your own obituary is a beautiful exercise that can help bring you back to what truly matters in life and help keep you accountable to your heart’s purpose.
Whenever you start to notice feelings of confusion, meaningless, or lack of purpose, you will always have this document to refer back to and to adapt as necessary. Write your obituary from the perspective of having lived exactly the life you want in your heart of hearts to live. This means that you are imagining having addressed those not-so-shiny aspects of yourself that have held you back from being the change you want to see in the world.
The obituary does not need to be long or detailed. This is totally up to you. The important thing is to be true, honest, and completely open with yourself. Let your soul sing. Let your spirit shine. Write it from the depths of your heart.
